Dr. Sage Haggard
Dr. J. Sage Haggard is a third generation integrative healthcare practitioner trained in naturopathy, pharmacology and chiropractic biophysics. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and has a long history of helping people transform into fit and strong minds and bodies.
With one grandfather as a pharmacist and the other a chiropractor, his father (also a chiropractor) recommended Dr. Haggard to go to naturopathic medical school.
Originally, Dr. Haggard had chosen to seek a degree in chemistry prior to going to naturopathic medical school. However, towards the end of his undergraduate studies, he switched to a degree in biology. He found it was of limited value to analyze food by burning it in a laboratory to gain nutritional knowledge because a calorie is not a calorie in biology. After years of nutritional science work, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Arizona State University and he discovered it is more useful to look at what happens when people actually consume different foods rather than to burn them in a laboratory. This led him down the path of researching how different foods effect our hormones and neurotransmitters.
He trained as a Pharmacy Specialist at the U.S. Army Academy of Health Sciences and worked as a compounding pharmacy technician for the Apothecary Shops. Also, he was a microbiology and pharmacology professor and clinical systems analyst. His doctorate is in Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine with certifications in chiropractic biophysics, evidence-based orthopedic examination tests, orthopedic rehabilitation, clinical densitometry and functional endocrinology.
Currently, his main specialties of practice include diabetes, metabolic syndrome and bariatrics at Sage Wellness AZ.
