Dr. Helen Hilts
Dr. Helen Hilts is a family medicine doctor with a special interest in diabetes and insulin resistance, being diabetic herself since 2004.
She is on no medication for diabetes because she eats very low carb, which means no sugar, no starch.
She grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from Stanford University where she studied string bass and marine biology. Her medical training was through the University of Arizona and Los Angeles County Hospital.
She has been in practice for 30 years including 11 years in the town of Guadalupe, Arizona where she was the chair of the Diabetes Committee, working with the local health Promotoras to educate people in Spanish and English on taking care of their diabetes. She now works for Honor Health at Scottsdale Road and Chaparral in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Hilts continues to study the science of diabetes and insulin resistance, so she can translate that information into plain language to people at risk from diabetes. She has given many talks on diabetes to laypeople and health professionals, in English and Spanish.
Dr. Hilts loves to teach people how eating low carb is a simple and very effective way to prevent and even reverse the damage from prediabetes and diabetes in themselves and the people they care about.
